Working with small spaces is a challenge we often face. From tiny bedrooms that can barely fit a bed, to living rooms that have to accommodate a dining area or even a home office.
Fitting everything you need into a small space definitely isn’t an easy task but here are a few easy solutions that will help make your small space appear much larger and more inviting with some smart design tricks.
Here are our top 4 tips to get you started;
#1 Brighten it up!
A light color paint with reflect light vs a dark color paint which will absorb light. Painting the walls a pale cream, dove white, or light gray will automatically expand your space.
#2 Play around with mirrors
I am constantly angling mirrors and re-positioning them to place them in the best spot possible. Hang a mirror directly across from the entry of your room. This will immediately give the space depth. You can also place mirrors opposite of your window. This automatically reflects the natural daylight of the outdoors.
#3 Lighting is everything
Dark dim rooms not only affect our mood; they makes our space feel small and claustrophobic. I suggest overhead lighting however if that is too expensive or if you are renting an apartment and cannot add overhead lighting; invest in lamps with the proper lumens. Lumens are the amount of light admitted from a light source. If table lamps just aren’t doing the trick don’t forget about Floor lamps which are another quick and easy fix to add bright lighting to an interior.
#4 Add some depth
Creating the illusion of a larger space by adding a large piece of art that shows depth.
